Detailed project case study
Softcat FTSE 250 & London Stock Exchange Data Programme
Enterprise-wide BI and reporting capability delivered during a period of major growth and increasing public-market scrutiny.
Helped build and mature Softcat’s BI and data capability, delivering governed reporting, automation and executive insight across sales, finance, operations and managed services.
Context
A high-growth business progressing through its London Stock Exchange and FTSE 250 journey needed consistent, governed and trusted reporting. Manual spreadsheets, fragmented definitions and slow reporting were becoming commercial and governance risks.
My mandate
Own and evolve the BI estate, turn fragmented operational and commercial data into governed decision support, and deliver the programme through a period of rapid growth and public-market scrutiny.
Scope
- FTSE 250 enterprise
- Global delivery
- Sales, finance, operations and managed services
- Board and executive reporting
Selected technologies
Key decisions
- Standardise definitions and reporting ownership before increasing self-service access.
- Use a governed BI estate rather than allow spreadsheet logic to multiply across functions.
- Sequence automation around the processes with the highest recurring operational cost.
What the team delivered
- Owned and evolved the BI estate across SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, QlikView, Qlik Sense and Power BI.
- Turned operational and commercial data into governed reporting, forecasting and executive-level insight.
