Detailed project case study

On-Premises to Fully Cloud Digital Transformation

An end-to-end transition from a legacy on-premises technology estate to a fully cloud operating model, modernising infrastructure, applications, identity, data access, security and service continuity while protecting live operations.

Portfolio headline

Led the transformation from on-premises infrastructure to a fully cloud operating model, delivering the target architecture, phased migration, secure cutover and transition into resilient BAU ownership.

01

The challenge

Legacy infrastructure and tightly coupled on-premises services constrained resilience, scalability, remote access and the pace of digital delivery. The business needed a controlled route to full cloud operation without disrupting critical ERP, warehouse, customer and reporting services.

02

What I delivered

  • Assessed the legacy estate, mapped operational dependencies and defined the target cloud architecture and sequenced migration roadmap.
  • Planned migration waves across infrastructure, applications, identity, data, reporting and end-user services, with controlled testing and cutover criteria.
  • Moved services and data-access patterns from virtualised and on-premises environments into Azure and cloud-aligned platforms.
  • Redesigned identity, access controls, secure data movement, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery and business-continuity arrangements for the cloud estate.
  • Protected ERP, WMS, customer, fulfilment and reporting operations throughout migration by managing integration dependencies and service transition.
  • Owned delivery from discovery and architecture through migration, testing, cutover, documentation, handover and BAU support, retiring legacy dependencies after validation.

Technologies & methods

The delivery combined platform, integration, data and operating practices appropriate to the project boundary.

  • Microsoft Azure
  • VMware vSphere
  • Windows Server
  • Citrix
  • Cloud migration
  • SQL Server
  • Secure data movement
  • DR / BCP
  • Identity and access controls
  • Data modelling
04

Business impact

  • Established a fully cloud operating model with clearer ownership and more scalable service foundations.
  • Improved availability, resilience and secure access across infrastructure, applications and operational data.
  • Created stronger foundations for analytics, automation and future application delivery.
  • Reduced the operational and recovery risk carried by legacy on-premises infrastructure.

Why this project matters

This was a business transformation rather than a hosting exercise. It required target-state architecture, migration discipline, security, continuity and adoption to work together so the organisation could leave its legacy estate without losing operational control.
